UBC is one of the few Lower Mainland employers to offer considerable housing opportunities for its employees and their families within its own neighbourhoods.
UBC’s overarching strategy for fostering academic excellence and sustainable leadership integrates into its Housing Action Plan (HAP) that promotes the responsible management of its land. HAP strives to provide affordable housing and diversity in rental choice with up to 20% of all new housing on campus restricted for the residential use of faculty and staff.
A division of UBC Properties Trust, Village Gate Homes has, since 2001, been leasing and managing rental homes to UBC’s faculty and staff. Village Gate Homes manages the entire UBC faculty and staff rental portfolio of 840 apartments and townhomes. Our homes are built on principles of sustainability and provide social, environmental, and financial support to the university’s academic mission.
Revenue generated from faculty and staff rental homes feeds back into UBC’s housing portfolio for further housing construction, regular maintenance and service expenses. Any revenue remaining flows to the UBC Endowment fund to support a range of programs and activities such as scholarships and bursaries across the University.
Village Gate Homes is involved with the leasing and day-to-day managing of faculty and staff housing on campus. Prospective and existing residents are well cared for and receive high-quality service.
A few of our team members interact frequently with residents and prospective tenants:
Our leasing administrator is the main point of contact for all prospective residents, supporting them through the entire process of leasing. Our leasing administrator handles all applications and communicates rental opportunities to waitlisted applicants when housing becomes available. Suite showings are organized either in-person or if requested, via photographs and videos.

Our property administrators are responsible for the day-to-day administration of assigned properties across the Village Gate Homes property portfolio. They communicate regularly with tenants on building and suite-related matters and support and address any questions or concerns during their tenancy.
Our caretakers are the primary point of contact for day-to-day building and in-suite maintenance requests by residents. Caretakers are available to attend to emergencies even after hours and communicate closely with property administrators on all building-related matters.
